East Tawas TIFA US-23 Improvement ProjectDuring February representatives from communities along the US-23 corridor from AuGres to Oscoda met to discuss collaborating on a regional US-23 design study. Representatives from the municipalities, along with three officials from MDOT, heard from Dan Burden of the Florida-based Walkable Communities on the proposed $26,500 design study. Burden conducted “walkability audits” in East Tawas, Tawas City, AuSable and Oscoda last fall as part of the “Cool Cities Blueprints for Michigan’s Downtowns program. The aim of the proposed effort is to attract attention to this part of the state, a region suffering one of the highest unemployment rates in Michigan, for possible grant monies. Read more...
Alabaster Wind Power Development Corporation At its regular monthly meeting, the Alabaster Township Board of Trustees passed a resolution officially supporting grant applications and funding requests to be made by Alabaster Wind Power Development Corporation (“AWPDC”) or its agents for wind power electric generating projects to be located in Alabaster Township, Iosco County, Michigan.

Presenters from the MSU Product Center and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will discuss the meaning of value-added production and explain how they can help grant writers navigate the USDA grant programs process. These are programs to help entrepreneurs develop value-added food and fiber businesses, including those involving alternative energy.
