IARGO SPRINGS BEAUTY
By: Morgan Beckley
This photo was taken on August 3, 2009. The location was Iargo Springs, Iosco County on River Road Scenic Byway. After descending 294 steps onto the Iargo Springs boardwalk the last thing on my mind was the climb back up. Through all the twist and turns of the walkway and streams it’s hard not to get trapped in the beauty of Iargo Springs. While down there you will find two low level man-made dams that make the whole walk and trip worth while.

THE SILVERY GHOST
By: Barbara Horger
The biggest slice of life in Iosco County is landing a Steel Head fish (a.k.a.) ( “ The Silvery Ghost”).
After a memorable tug-of-war they sometimes break loose and just disappear. Visiting from South Florida my son Tim landed this beauty while fishing at the High banks scenic pull off located on West River Road. In his own words: “ This is my favorite season for fishing. The Au Sable River with the early sun rising, fresh cool air and crystal water sets the stage for catching this fish. Just the sheer fight alone is worth the price of admission.”

“Unsung Hero”
By: Vickie Durfee
Gus Lange is truly one of Iosco County’s “Unsung Heroes”.  He has lived in Iosco County his entire life and worked the family farm since he was a young boy. He worked for the Iosco County Sheriff Department for 28 years, started as a deputy and retired as a Captain. He has served his country in the U.S. Air Force. Gus has been with the Burleigh-Reno-Whittemore Fire Department for 40 years and is currently the fire Chief.
This photo is a reflection of someone who has lived in Iosco County all their life and served the community well. Gus Lange is a wonderful illustration of a “Slice of Life in Iosco County”.
